The recipe for faith is very simple, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).
It is important to have faith in God because this type of faith guarantees our victory. The scripture in 1 John 5: 4, tells us that whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.
Faith is not something that grows naturally on its own. We have to cultivate it daily if we want to see it grow. Jesus equated his words with seeds, we should think of our Faith as a seed. What seed do you want to plant in your heart? The Bible is full of these ‘seeds’ with the power and potential to produce good fruit in your life. These are the Promises of God found within the scriptures of the bible.
In this section, we will focus on some practical steps you can take to see your faith grow.
Here is a very simple exercise to find and activate the promises of God in your heart:
1. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you
Invite the Holy Spirit into your heart and thank him in advance for his help in finding that specific word (or seed) you need. Before you open your bible, take a moment to listen. If He brings a specific scripture to mind, then you’ll know where to start (skip step 2).
2. Look for scripture with reference to the solution to your situation.
Do a search online for verses about your topic or need, and start reading your bible. The scriptures you find will represent God’s promises to you for the specific situation you are believing for. You’ll learn his intention and will for you.
3. Take note and repeat that promise to yourself over and over again every day, constantly meditating and thinking about it.
Once you find it, like a seed, you have to plant it, giving it the necessary nutrients so that it can grow. You do this every time you think, say, act on this scripture, until that promise is manifested in your life. Stay with it – this is what separates those who reap from those who fail. Without knowing how that seed will grow:
Jesus continued: “The kingdom of God is like one who scatters seed on earth. Without his knowing how, and whether he is sleeping or awake, day and night the seed sprouts and grows. The land bears fruit on its own; first the stem, then the ear, and then the full grain in the ear. As soon as the grain is ripe, the sickle is put into it, because the time for the harvest has come (Mark 4: 26-29).
4. Hear teachings of faith
Strengthen your faith by listening to faith teachings on the subject of the promise you want to see in your life. You are what you eat – in the same way, you are what you hear. What are you listening to and filling your mind with? What is consuming your thoughts? Feed your faith if you want it to grow and produce the fruit in your life. Faith comes as a result of hearing the message, and the message that is heard is the word of Christ (Romans 10:17).
When the world is full of negativity, violence, and uncertainty, the Word of God fills us with confident peace, joy, humility, and certainty in our hearts. Following this simple exercise will help grow your faith and receive all that God has for you.
