Why is my faith in God so weak?

When life is going well and things are great, it can be easy to believe in God. But when you’re going through your toughest moments and the world seems unfair – that’s when doubt starts to creep in. If you haven’t been feeding your faith it would be normal to give in to fear, but for somebody that has been building their faith, when a challenge comes, they are ready to push back and are not affected by it. Faith allows them to overcome!

It’s important to not get discouraged when you realize that your faith in God feels so weak. Faith is not a feeling – it’s a decision. Let this post motivate you to get back up and strengthen your faith.

What causes weak faith?

We lose faith when we take our eyes off the promises of God and stop listening to His Word. Lack of Word results in weak faith.

Jesus said that men need the Word of God just like bread – you need His Word to sustain you every day. It is a nutrient to your spirit. If you stop feeding from the Word, you stop getting the benefits and your faith starts to weaken.

Weak faith in a believer is often revealed by a difficult life situation or crisis. If their faith in God is not strong enough, faith will grow even weaker and doubt will get stronger and take the lead. Just like if you stop mowing your lawn, weeds are guaranteed to grow. If you stop feeding on the Word, your faith will become weaker each day and weeds (fear, doubt, and unbelief) will start to grow automatically – without you even trying!

A person that doesn’t take the time to feed their faith, the harder things get in their life, the more they will question God. Unfortunately for many people, it’s not until they’ve reached the bottom that they realize they need to feed their faith and starve their doubts. Don’t let this happen to you, don’t wait until the situation gets worse for you to start feeding your faith. Make the decision right now that you will start to work on your faith.

What do you do when you lose faith in God?

When your faith becomes weak and you have stopped listening to God’s Word, you need to repent, then get yourself back in faith.

You might be in the middle of a storm right now, but you need to take your eyes off what’s happening all around you and look to Jesus. Stop listening to the negative words being said by those around you and saturate your heart and mind in the scriptures. The Word of God is alive and active and it will work for you when you have faith in God!

Remember, your faith is still there with you, it might have become weak, but the spiritual force is still there. The work you need to do now is to make it grow so you can become stronger. Feed your faith in the Word. You need to know what God says about your situation so that you can agree with it, say it, and do it!

Make it a habit to read your Bible every day in the presence of God – yes, no matter good or bad days. Don’t get so caught up in the daily activities that you forget to tune into God’s Word. It takes faith to read the Bible when things are not going great, but faith will become stronger if you do it.

Decide today that you will strengthen your faith

It’s not what happens to us, it is what we do with the situations that come our way. Decide today that you will strengthen your faith in God by spending time in the presence of God, reading and confessing what’s in your Bible about your situation. The victory belongs to you!
